What is it to have unconditional love and acceptance of the ones that we love?
First of all what is love?
From the Hebrew agape, christian love, whether exercised toward the brethren, or toward men generally, is not an impulse from the feelings, it does not always run with the natural inclinations, nor does it spend itself only upon those for whom some affinity is discovered. Love seeks the welfare of all. - Vines Concise Dictionary of the Bible
What is acceptance/accepted?
From the Hebrew dektos, it denotes a person or thing who has been regarded favorably. From the Hebrew apodektos, it denotes a strengthened form of the above in the sense of what is pleasing and welcome - Vines Concise Dictionary of the Bible
What is it to be unconditional?
It is not limited by conditions; absolute
We all know what unconditional love is, but I think we have a misunderstanding of what unconditional acceptance is and how it ties in with unconditional love. According to Vines dictionary of the Bible, to be accepted to to be regarded favorably and to be seen as being pleasing and welcomed. So to be unconditionally accepted to to be regarded favorably and to be seen as pleasing and welcomed no matter what. It is not limited by conditions, it is absolute. What does this mean when it comes to our decisions and how others regard us in making those decisions? Why is it that if we make a decision and someone we love may not agree, that person that we love and trust may no longer see us as pleasing and welcomed in our own thinking. We may no longer be viewed as favorably in our decisions and in our life's paths.
I have been told more than once, that if I make a certain decision, that I will no longer have a good or as good of a relationship with a person that I love. These statements tend to be made in almost a threatening type of manner. Is the acceptance in that relationship unconditional? They never said that they wouldn't love me if I made the decision, they simply stated that our relationship would not be as good. Therefore even with this statement, they may believe that they represent an unconditional love. But what about unconditional acceptance? Does this statement represent favor to the person to which it's made? Does it represent the person decision process to be pleasing or welcomed? I don't think so.
What if that instead of using the above statement/threat the person simply stated their strong disagreement anytime the subject came up (or even when the subject didn't come up)? Is that unconditional acceptance? If you have to continually voice your strong disagreement do you represent favor to the person to whom you disagree with? Does your continued rebuttals say that you are pleased with and welcome the person to whom you disagree? Again, I don't think so, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
What does represent unconditional acceptance when you disagree with a loved one? Is there a way to represent unconditional acceptance when you disagree with a loved one? ABSOLUTELY! I see God do it all the time! I believe that God represents total unconditional love and acceptance. How does He handle it when He may disagree with a life choice or decision? Does He strike lightning at your feet to get your attention and threaten you that if you don't make the decision that He wants, your relationship with Him is going to be ruined? Does He tell you every chance He gets that He strongly disagrees with your decision? Does He continually tell you why your wrong? Nope. God may tell you that He disagrees, but that's the end of it. He allows free will. He allows us free will to make our decisions and in doing so He represents His love for us to choose. He may disagree with our decision, but He loves us so much that He will allow us to make a mistake. He knows that by forcing His way, He will drive us away. No matter what decision we make, He will not only love us unconditionally, but we in the process of making our decisions will always be regarded favorably, we will always be regarded as pleasing, and we will always be welcomed (both our thoughts and selves) will be welcomed. He will never push us... He knows that that will lead to us pushing away. It's human nature. He trust His love enough that it will always lead us back to Him, even if we do make a mistake. He trust His teaching to guide is in the right path, even if we miss the turn.
God is the ultimate love and we should learn from how He handles our human natures. We must trust our loved ones to make decisions of their own (talking about adults not kids) and we must trust God to help them if they do make a wrong turn. Parents must trust their own parenting and must trust God to keep their kids (as adults) from making the wrong decisions. In physics we learn about newton's first law of motion... that to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Meaning that if you push, you are going to get pushed back. If you push your opinion, don't be surprised when the person you push pushes back (by the way that push back may not be directly on you, but away from you). God know that or human hearts and emotions operate to this same concept. By the way, who are you as a human to say whether a decision is wrong! Only God knows His plans for us. You may be the most spiritual person on this earth, but you will never know the right decisions for someone else and their life. Most of the time we don't even know the right decisions and right path for our lives according to Christ. Only God can judge what decision is right and wrong, and only God has the ability to change a heart if someone is making the wrong decision, and only God can take a decision that was wrong and turn it into something beautiful. It's time we stopped forcing our opinions on someone else and their life's decisions when that job is meant for God alone.
I believe that unconditional love and unconditional acceptance ties hand in hand as God represents in His love, yet I have seen it separated in the love that we express for one another, why?
